Wilrijk-based transport specialist FT Group is an innovative family that started life in 2002 fitting tyres for transport vehicles. Today, the company has 30 employees and 300 customers. It specialises in providing total solutions for transport systems, automation, and robotics for industrial and logistics companies. Very recently, FT Group decided to migrate its entire IT infrastructure to the Cloud.
The company works with more than 7000 materials and components, which are all managed in an ERP system that keeps an eye on the entire production system, from A to Z. This ERP system is linked to 3D software for producing designs and drawings, as well as to a full accounting package. The engineers in the FT Group are all equipped with a tablet so that they have access at all times to all of the information they need when working with customers.

Very recently, FT Group decided to migrate its entire IT infrastructure to the Cloud. An outdated IT infrastructure and a different focus for the in-house IT manager were the 2 main reasons behind this decision.
Out-of-date IT infrastructure
The main reason for switching to the Cloud was the company’s local (on-premise) IT infrastructure, which was very much out of date and so would need to be replaced sooner or later anyway. To do so fully would have required a significant investment. But switching to Cloud servers has been a good way of avoiding that expense.
In-house IT Manager
The second, but no less important reason was that the IT Manager was becoming increasingly less available due to other commitments within the company. This meant that FT Group had to go looking for a permanent solution for its IT management.
We are very satisfied with ITCE as our IT partner and would definitely choose it again. Our cooperation runs very smoothly and together we constantly try to improve.
Migration to the Cloud
Fortunately, FT Group was able to rely on ITCE to find its way to the Cloud. The whole operation took less than 3 months and was carefully prepared and planned by a Technical Account Manager at ITCE. On the day of the final migration, various ITCE architects were on hand to ensure that everything ran flawlessly. As a result, everything at FT Group is now in the Cloud, including the ERP system, 3D software and the accounting package.
All of FT Group’s IT support is managed by ITCE through a Service Level Agreement. This SLA not only includes support for the various Cloud services, but also the whole array of support and assistance for the local network (firewall, network switches), as well as the supply and installation of all hardware.
At the moment, ITCE is investigating to see how FT Group’s IT costs can be optimised further, while at the same time working on a Disaster Recovery Plan.
By electing to have an IT infrastructure in the Cloud, FT Group has opted for a high-performance and secure IT solution that is supported by Microsoft. The new IT setup also enjoys enormous flexibility, both upstream and downstream. Better still, FT Group can be sure that it always pays the best price for ITCE’s services.
